Dear John,
We would like to acknowledge and thank you for taking part in ITS Faculty Resource Center sessions during our inaugural year. According to our records you attended the following FRC events on the following days:
• 6-2. Easy Grade: Self-Calculating Electronic Gradebooks (Excel) December
9, 2002
• 5-7. WebCT Winter Workshop January 15, 2003
• Faculty Joint Planning Session January 30, 2003
• 2-3. Recentering Teaching: Promoting Active Engagement in Learning (for
Chemistry, Medical Technology & Physics Department) March 26, 2003
• 5-2. Creating Respondus Tests and Quizzes in WebCT April 1, 2003
• Faculty Showcase - Homegrown Innovations in Teaching for Learning May
19, 2003
Your dedication and commitment to exploring new ideas, technologies and teaching strategies was evident during the sessions. It is faculty who open themselves up to new learning experiences who are often the best able to relate to the learners in their classes. You are most certainly among this elite.
As you know, you aren’t alone. In the 2002-2003 academic year over 140 MU faculty from all levels registered and attended at least one session; some attended up to nine. FRC sessions accommodated anywhere from 40 to 1 participant (when some busy registered faculty forgot or got called away); our average common session attendance hovered around six: the number we can comfortably fit into the Faculty Resource Center (JP 115). Using faculty availability to schedule sessions, we managed to conveniently target faculty needs and even get faculty back for follow-on sessions. In all, FRC sponsored events included over 400 attendees the past 9 months. Indeed, from late August 2002 through June 2003, we have managed to offer 82 sessions and events ranging from 1 ¼ hours (your favorite time period) to 2 days in length. With your help and response to our early and ongoing Faculty Interest/Needs Survey we built a range of offerings that cover pretty much everything you might need to facilitate teaching and learning, while situating technology use within your roles and interests as faculty. From what we hear, these session along with the handouts and FRC Reference Notebook have proved useful to you.
We have deeply appreciated feedback shared by you and others who have participated
in the FRC sessions; and we use it! We look forward to hearing more about how
you are integrating the ideas and skills that originated in your FRC sessions.
Thank you for caring and sharing and actively participating. Your enthusiasm
and commitment is inspirational.
